Fire, fire, fire!

Yesterday afternoon, I was seriously working in my office when suddenly the building's PA system announced that there's a fire in the sixth floor. We're on the fifth floor. A co-employee informed me that it's just a fire drill. That's a relief! Whew!

Fire drill is done every year in compliance with the Fire Code of the Philippines.

As instructed, we went down via the nearest fire exit. Then, we proceeded to the front driveway of the building to watch the shows. Most of the building's occupants were already gathered waiting for the shows to begin. White smokes were being emitted out of the building. A fire truck arrived and sprayed water on the building. Then, a victim was being hoisted down.

We didn't finish the show but instead ate "halo halo" in the building's fastfood at the ground floor.

When we finished the "halo-halo", the show also ended. Then, we returned to our workplace.

Web hosting for your site or blog

I have been blogging for more than three years already. I have created not just one, two, or three blogs but more than five blogs. During this period, I befriended some bloggers. Some of these friends have told me that they are moving from free website to hosted website. That is great, I told them. I, myself, have also considered this move. But my limited time prevented me to do so.

Actually, I had already planned of having my blog hosted. And, I already searched for the best website host for my blog. However, I would not recommend the website host that I found the best for me. My reason is what is best for me may not be even good for them.

But, what I gave them are the website hosting review sites for them to evaluate what is best for them. Among the website hosting review sites I recommended is the WebHostingGeek.com.

WebHostingGeek.com indepently reviews all webhosting providers. And, by checking the reviews and features, it would be an easy task to select the best webhosting site for your website or blog. Even if you’re on a budget constraint, there is a webhosting site you could find.

Oh by the way, wifey is also considering her blog hosted. And, she is now consulting WebHostingGeek.com.

Where to look for web hosting provider

I have been planning of having my blogs, or at least one of my blogs, hosted. I have put off my plan momentarily because I become very busy with my works. Actually, I had already window shopped for the best website hosting providers. I searched the internet and asked for tips and advices from my online friends. It wasn’t easy as I thought. With the so many providers and plans, I got confused.

One blogger friend referred me to WebHostingRating.com. He emphasized to me that he is really satisfied with its services. I immediately visited the recommended site. I’m glad that I found this site and thanked my friend for leading me to it.

WebHostingRating.com independently rates website hosting providers and features the top 10 web hosting companies. It is based its rating on the customer satisfaction, affordability, reliability, uptime and techical support. It likewise provides complete information about the web hosting provides on the plans, promotional and discount coupons and the reviews by their customers.

If you are looking for a web hosting provider for your company or personal website or blog, WebHostingRating.com is the best place to go. You will not go wrong with it. You can visit the site and see for yourself what it can offer. You can also read articles about useful tips, such as tips on purchasing a domain name.

INC Day isn't a non-working holiday

Our Personnel Department announced that Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) day on July 27 this year is a special working holiday and not a non-working holiday.

Inquirer reported it as non-working holiday on July 7, 2009. The day after, Philippine Star reported it as special working holiday.

Which is which?

Thus, our personnel supervisor called up Malacanang Palace and confirmed that it is a special working holiday.

I hope INC could publish its program for the information of the public, especially the motorists and commuters plying the Commonwealth Avenue.

Iglesia ni Cristo Day, a non-working holiday

I read in the news today that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) Day a non-working holiday. It's on July 27; and, being a Monday, it's another long weekend. Yippee!

I think this church is celebrating its 95th founding anniversary. I still remember its 75th anniversary celebration at its central church. I was caught in a monstrous traffic it created along Commonwealth Avenue. It took me more than three hours to get out of that traffic. And, most unfortunately, my gas tank got empty before I reached the next gasoline station. Thus, I always make it a point not to pass Commonwealth Avenue during its anniversary.

I'm glad it's now a non-working holiday.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO!

Influenza vaccine

Have you had your influenza (flu) vaccine shot? I just had mine yesterday. And, it was provided by our company. Actually, I wouldn't get one if it weren't for free. And, I was the one tasked to look for the provider and administrator. We'd checked with several hospitals and doctors; but, the vaccines are out of stocks and the fresh supplies would be arriving by next month. Fortunately, I found one, through the internet, that has stocks of 50 shots. I immediately reserved them. And, the administration was done in our office.

The flue vaccine is not a protection for the scary AH1N1 (swine flu) but for the common flu (or trangkaso) only.

I miss Sydney

I and my wife spent our vacation in Sydney, Australia. Oh, that was about five years ago. It’s one of the beautiful and cleanest cities in the world. We enjoyed our stay in this city albeit for a short while only. I love the place; and, I am missing it already. I want to go back there and visit again the places we had visited – the Blue Mountain, Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour, Bondai Beach, and many other exciting places. Since two years ago, we have started saving and planning for another vacation in Sydney. This time, we would bring along our two kids.

In our last vacation, we stayed in my sister’s house. But, on our next vacation, we would stay in a hotel. Fortunately, I found out about Accor Hotels City Super Sale. It offers reduced hotel rates in 27 cities across ten countries in Asia Pacific. It includes the hotel rates in Sydney. The other cities included are Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hanoi, Manila, Mumbai, and Auckland. I would be availing of this promotion and save on our accommodations.

If you are also planning of traveling to any of these cities, you could save of up to 60% when you book online between June 23 to 29, 2009 for stays between July 10 and September 20, 2009. By the way, you could also avail of the record-low air fares across the Asia Pacific region. It means additional savings. Hurry! Accor Hotels City Super Sale is for a limited time only.

A double celebration

Last June 8 was my 52nd birthday. It's also the 7th wedding anniversary of my nephew, Ryan. I celebrated my birthday with a dinner in our favorite Chinese restaurant - Emerald Restaurant. I invited my closest relatives, my family, my mother, my sister - Elvie, and my nephews and nieces. Of course, the other celebrators, Ryan and his beautiful wife - Pie, were invited too. After my celebration, Ryan and Pie invited us for a night out at the Dungeon Bar in Camelot Hotel to celebrate their anniversary. Wow, it's a double celebration - a night of food, booze, fun and bonding!

Pahiyas Festival 2009

Wifey requested me that we go to Lucban, Quezon on Friday, May 15, to witness its famous Pahiyas Festival. I couldn't decline her request lest I'd end 6 feet under the ground.

We passed by Lucban last December on our way back to Manila from our trip to Bicol Region. But I've never witnessed personally the Pahiyas Festival yet. I'm glad she asked.

I checked the net to know more about this festival - what to do and what to expect when we get there. Luckily, the festival has its own website, http://www.pahiyasfestival.com/. Thus, I was able to get the location map, calendar of events, route map, travel tips, and other relevant information.

Now, I'm excited to get there!

Planning your next vacation online

Dreaming for your next vacation with the family excites everyone. However, planning for it is a very tedious task to do. First, you have to determine your budget and how to save for it. Then, you need to get the concessions of everybody where to spend it. When and how are other questions you have to answer.

When we had our grand vacation a few years back, it was my wife who arranged for everything - from researching for the best destination our budget could afford, to scheduling the itinerary, and to booking for tickets and the places to stay in. And, it was a piece of cake for her. “How did you do it?”, I asked her. “I did it online!”, was her reply.

If you are planning for your next vacation, plan it online with the help of countless information available on the internet. You can research and compare for the best destinations and places to see and things to do when you get there. You can even compare and book for your transportation and your hotels online.

Now, wifey is already dreaming and planning for our next vacation online. I and my kids are looking forward for it too. I know we are going to enjoy again our next vacation.

A combo snacks

It’s Mother’s Day; and, Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers!

We had lunch to celebrate the Mother’s Day with my mother, my wifey, and my sister.

And, for our snacks, wifey bought Pancit Malabon. I bought some lettuce. Then, I combined them. A combo of Pancit Malabon and Lettuce salad with Caesar dressing. Wow, I loved it.

A new viand

Wifey's a good cook; and, she loves cooking. When there's occasion in the family, she prefers cooking than buying cooked food or engaging a caterer.

Today, she cooked a new viand for our lunch. It's her first time to cook this one. It's meatball stuffed with shrimp and topped with sweet and sour sauce.

From 1 - 10, I rated it at 11. He he he . . .

You may check her recipe here.

Holy Week at San Fabian Beach

We spent the Maundy Thursday up to Black Saturday at San Fabian Beach in Pangasinan. I was with wifey, my mother, my sister, my son, my nephews and nieces.

On our way to San Fabian, we saw countless of penitents, who either carrying crosses or whipping their backs until they became gory. These are some of the Catholic Filipino traditions that are being done during holy weeks. Some go to the point of being nailed on the cross.

At Gerona, Tarlac, my niece Lizeth treated us for lunch at Isdaan Restaurant. She just celebrated her birthday a few days back (March 30), and we teased her mother, my sister Elvie, for a blow-out.

To avoid the perennial traffic along Urdaneta City, we took the longer way – the Magilas Trail detour. We also stopped over at the Manaoag Church before proceeding to the beach.

At the beach, we met with our relatives from Quezon, Isabela. Yes, they drove all the way from Isabela. It’s another reunion and bonding for our family. We're happy to see each other again. Unfortunately, the clan wasn't complete. My eldest sister Evelyn and her hubby are in the US of A, my youngest sister Bebeng and her family are in Sydney, my daughter Jaja had work, my nephews Ronel and Jing and their families were left in Isabela, and my nephew Raymond is in Brunei.

And, the three days and two nights were spent eating, drinking, singing, gambling and swimming.

Everybody enjoyed and had fun.

My sleepy trip to Cebu

Yesterday, I attended a seminar in Cebu. It wasn't actually in Cebu City but in Lapulapu City, Mactan Island.

My flight was at 7:00 AM. Normally, I am at the airport at least 2 hours before departure time. But, this time, I arrived at the airport 45 minutes before the departure time. I overslept due to lack of sleep the night before. We came home from our Bagac, Bataan outing at close to midnight. As soon as I buckled up, I slept; and, I almost didn’t feel the touch down in Cebu.

From Cebu airport, I proceeded straight to the seminar venue, which is just some blocks away. It’s a whole day affair. I was very sleepy most of time; hence, I didn’t absorb everything that had been discussed. I’ve gone to and fro the coffee station for a countless times. I thought I’d drunk about a dozen cups of brewed coffee to keep me awake. I asked my companion to tap me whenever he saw me asleep.

After the seminar, my companion and I went to the hotel, which is just a stone throw away. We ate our dinner, drank a few rounds of beer and gone to bed early. My eyes were already closing.

In the morning, I woke up at about 7:00 AM and felt refreshed. After eating our breakfast, I packed my things and proceeded to the airport for my flight back to Manila.

Outing to Sun Moon Beach Resort

The weather is weird. It's already summer; but, it's still raining! Rain or shine, it's summer all right!

About almost a month ago, we'd planned of having an outing tomorrow up to Monday. But, it was canceled as I'm going to Cebu City on Monday early morning. But, wifey's unstoppable and persistent. He he he . . . Today, she called up her sister, our niece-in-law, my sister and invited them to have a day trip to Sun Moon Beach Resort in Bagac, Bataan. Her sister and our niece-in-law immediately accepted the invitation. My sister didn't want to come due to her recent surgery.

Oh, by the way, we just came home from the grocery!

Let's have fun and hit the beach!

The new Bacolod City Hall

Last February 9, I went to Bacolod City, the City of Smiles, to discuss with the City Treasurer the increase in its business tax rates, which is effective this year. My colleagues in the city accompanied me to the Treasurer’s Office at the ground floor of the City Hall. The good Treasurer explained to us the rationale of the increase and informed us that there’s a public hearing about the increase in tax rates at 2:00 PM in the new City Hall. So, the city has currently two city halls.

After eating our lunch, we proceeded to the new City Hall to attend the public hearing. Upon seeing the new City Hall, I was very much impressed with it.

Marching band

I’m a fan of marching bands since I was in my elementary days. We lived near a military camp. Everytime there’s a parade in the camp, I’d surely go there to watch the marching bands even without the permission of my parents.

Last Valentine’s day, we went to Clark Freeport Zone to watch the Hot Air Balloon fiesta. But, my attention was immediately caught by the marching band of the Airforce City. Thus, I watched the band performed first before everything else. And, I really enjoyed it.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's day comes once every year. This doesn't mean that expressing our love to our loved ones should be once a year only. Love should be expressed every minute or even second. Kiss, hug, and say "I LOVE YOU" to everyone you love always.

Good news for alcoholics

I started drinking during my high school days. When my parents learned about this bad habit, they encouraged me to drop it lest I would get addicted and ruin my life. I heeded their advice but not totally. I do drink but occasionally and moderately.

I pity those who are not able to control themselves and got addicted. But, they should not lose hope because there is good news for them. There is the alcoholism rehab that would take care of them.

Flying back to Manila

Last Tuesday, after eating my breakfast, I checked out of the hotel, proceeded to the Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro City and boarded the plane for Manila. As usual, I took the exit row seat for more legroom. The ride to Manila was smooth unlike the bumpy ride to Cagayan de Oro City. And, the plane departed and arrived on time.

From my official business in Valencia City yesterday, I returned back to Cagayan De Oro City for an overnight stay for my flight back to Manila this morning.

The hotel where I stayed has a free buffet breakfast. Before going to the airport, I ate my breakfast first.

Plain rice, fried eggs, corned beef, bacon, coffee, four seasons juice

Mango, pineapple, papaya, watermelon, banana, cake, coffee, pineapple juice

My third cup of coffee

Except for the coffee, I didn't go back to the buffet table anymore to get for more. I was already full. Burp!

Bebe Gandanghari

When I got out of our room from my afternoon nap, I saw wifey and daughter Jaja watching the TV. I saw a beautiful lady being interviewed in Startalk Exclusive by Joey De Leon, Lolit Solis, Butch Franciso and Ricky Lo. Then, I immediately realized she's the erstwhile Rustom Padilla - the brother (or sister - whatever) of Robin and Royette Padilla - the hoodlums. He (she - whatever) is now known as Bebe (pronounced as Bibi) Gandanghari. I was really amazed at how he's transformed from a macho man to a lovely beautiful lady (from the outside).
OMG! Nanay Lolit's right. He (she - whatever) looks like Carmina Villaroel - his (her - whatever) ex-wife.

Actually, during his macho days, I already sensed otherwise. How did I know? It takes one to know one. Oh, di ba!!!

Related topic: Rustom Padilla is dead!

PayPerPost is offering less

I logged in to my PayPerPost (PPP) account and checked the available opportunities. Wow, there were five with grey background and one with white. But, I was surprised to see the offers. The offers for five opps were minuscule - fifty cents, a dollar, and a dollar and fifty. Despite the low offers, four opps have already been reserved. There's only one that's still available - "Blog pictures".

Curious for the low offers, I checked the available opp out. The task is very easy. All you need to do is register with the sponsor's site (a source of free pictures), link it and hotlink a photo. You're not even required to write a post. What could I buy with fifty cents? One bottle of beer! Since the task's very easy, I took it.

But, I'm already worried and alarmed with the trends.

First, the opportunities are scarce. In the last three months of 2007 (I started with PPP on September 2007), I averaged 15 opps a month. In 2008, I just averaged two opps a month. And, this new year, there are offers that are too low.
