Social Security System

Social Security System (SSS) is an agency of the Philippine Government mandated to protect the country's workers and their dependents/beneficiaries. The system shall promote social justice and provide meaningful protection to members and their families against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death and other contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden. (Section 2, RA 8282)

Currently, the system covers the following benefits:
  • Sickness
  • Maternity
  • Retirement
  • Disability
  • Death &
  • Funeral
  • Medicare
  • Employees' Compensation
It also extends loans to its members:
  • Salary
  • Calamity
  • Emergency
  • Housing
Before members can avail of the above benefits, they must present their SSS Identification Cards - "no ID card, no transaction". ID card can be obtained free of charge from any SSS branch with ID capture facilities. Replacement of ID card is subject to a certain fee.

SSS main office is located along East Avenue, Quezon City. To date, it has 30 branches in Metro Manila, 53 in Luzon, 22 in Visayas, 27 in Mindanao, and 14 in some parts of the world.
