Sweetest sweet potato

I also like and enjoy eating sweet potato (kamote), whether boiled or fried or kamotecue (I just remove the sugar).  I prefer the first as it's healthier, but moderately being a diabetic.

They say, this root tuber is a poor man's food.  I can still remember - when I offered it to an office mate, who hailed from the province, he rejected it.  He said, "Tom, when I was in our province, I'd been eating kamote almost daily!"  Okay, fine!  He he . . .

Poor or rich, some generous friends offered 2-kilos of kamote for free.  It's free, so I accepted.

It's Kalim-aw orange kamote.  I learnt that this type comes from Mindanao mountain ranges.

Let's try and taste it.  The skins were still soiled with some traces of worm attack.  So, I thoroughly cleaned and brushed off the dirts first before boiling them.

Cooked, at last!  Wow, this is the sweetest kamote I've ever tasted.

Another offer is coming!  Next time, I am going to try a grilled kamote.

Eating kamote, I hope I won't become a "kamote rider".  But, farting?  Also, I was reminded of my kamote episodes in school examinations.

My lunch for P120

I and two office mates ate lunch at the Food Court of the adjacent BPI Building.

There's a new stall, Pinoy Fiesta, that serves Filipino dishes.  For P120, you get a cup of rice, a viand, a vegetable, half salted egg with slices of tomato and pipino, and a dessert.  For P170, you get the same items plus another viand.

There are lot of choices; and, I ordered pesang salmon, ampalaya, half salted egg, and pudding.
 That's enough to satiate me.

Family dinner at Kowloon House

I was at the mountain biking.  At a pitstop,  I checked my phone and read Wifey's text that we dine using her voucher at Barrio Fiesta in Mega Mall tonight.

But, I didn't want to drive from Novaliches to Mega Mall and vice versa.  So, I offered to have dinner at the nearest Don Cuisine Restaurant instead.  I'd rather pay than drive.

However, they opted the nearby Chinese restaurant - Kowloon House.

Army Navy (Burger + Burrito)

I've learned about this restaurant from a mountain biking forum about two years.  But, I haven't tried it until yesterday.

I was in Trinoma last night with Wifey for our dinner.  Lo and behold, I spotted this restaurant.
Intrigued and curious, I scrutinized the menu.  It has a lot of selections to choose from: burgers, burritos, tortillas, tacos and more . . .
At last, this is my opportunity to try it's burger for my dinner.  I ordered the classic single quarter pound burger.  And, it's good.

I salute you, Army Navy!  Better try it!

My breakfast of egg & kani sandwich

Egg and kani sandwich with a glass of iced cold tea (no sugar) - my breakfast before I went mountain biking today.

One egg - scrambled and fried, three sticks of kani, lettuce, mayonnaise, and Gardenia wheat bread.
Now, I'm ready to go mountain biking.

Our Lunch at Chicken Bacolod

It's already almost 1:00 PM; and, Wifey and I were already starving.  A minute more; and, we might die with open eyes.

Along the way, we're choosing for restaurant to dine in; Jolibee, Chow King, KFC, McDonald, Kowloon and, bulls eye - we spotted Chicken Bacolod.
We ordered batchoy (noodle soup), two chicken thigh inasal (grilled), and a chicken tail inasal.
After devouring my food, I still felt not satisfied.  I again looked at the menu and ordered turon (fried banana in lumpia wrapper).
Wifey loves this place.  Aside from the nice food, the ingredients of batchoy are beef and no pork.

Snack at World Chicken

My afternoon snack at World Chicken - grilled chicken with farm fresh mushroom sauce and fried banana siding:

The grilled chicken is good; and, the menu has lots of sauces and sidings to choose from.

Now, I could drive home after the number coding  period without worrying about getting hungry.

A new viand

Wifey's a good cook; and, she loves cooking. When there's occasion in the family, she prefers cooking than buying cooked food or engaging a caterer.

Today, she cooked a new viand for our lunch. It's her first time to cook this one. It's meatball stuffed with shrimp and topped with sweet and sour sauce.

From 1 - 10, I rated it at 11. He he he . . .

You may check her recipe here.

PhotoHunters

Chinese food is one of my FAVORITE dishes.

Last Thursday, I treated my staff for a dinner in one of the famous Chinese restaurants near our office in Makati City. They love Chinese food too. Actually, we're supposed to go to another restaurant but changed our minds when we saw the Chinese restaurant.

After pondering the menu, we ordered the following:

Cold Cuts Platter

Seafood Egg Fu-yung

Empress Chicken

Steamed Fish Fillet

Yeung Chow Fried Rice

House Tea

I'm hungry

I was blogging one Sunday afternoon when I felt hungry. I rummaged our refrigerator for something to eat. I found slices of bread, salted egg, kani (synthetic crab), tomato, and a bottle of mayonnaise and made sandwich out of them.
It's so yummy not because I was hungry but because it's really yummy. I wouldn't trade it for any fastfood hamburger. I named it "Tom's Kani Salted Egg Sandwich".

Try it!

Dinner for two

On our way home last Tuesday afternoon, we passed by Trinoma to dine. Most of the time, we eat either in our favorite Japanese or Chinese restaurant. This time, I intimated to my wife to try the other restaurants. She did consider them, all right; but, we ended up eating Japanese food again:

Luigi's birthday celebration

We simply and extemporaneously celebrated my son's birthday in Teriyaki Boy in Trinoma. The only guest is her Tita Elvie. These are the food that we ordered.

California Maki. It’s good there’s one left and I was able to capture it.

House tea. It’s the best; because, it’s free.

The classic Ebi Tempura

Kani Salad

Asparagus wrapped in bacon(I forgot the Japanese term)

Yaki Udon (or is it Yaki Soba?)

Unagi Teriyaki - my favorite among my favorites

Salmon Teriyaki - another favorite

My favorite American Seafood Recipe

I love eating but moderately. And, my wife enjoys cooking; and, she collects recipes of different dishes from around the world just to impress me. I am the number one fan of my favorite cook – my wife. And, she knows my favorite food, which is seafood - fishes, shrimps, squids, crabs, shells, and almost anything edible you catch under the sea, river, and pond.

I learned and visited a great site about the Great American Seafood Cook-Off. It is currently holding a cook off - Recipe Contest. The top five recipes have been voted upon and named by the judges. And, it’s up for the people to choose and vote for their favorite recipe from the top five.

I have two favorites and in a quandary which one to vote. They are:
  • Colorado Striped Bass Panzanella by Colorado’s Chef Paul Anders
  • Pan Roasted Glazed Rockfish with Peas and Carrots by Maryland’s Chef Tafari Campbell
After a profound consideration, I picked the Colorado Striped Bass Panzanella. I love eating seafood, particularly fishes. I like their taste; and they are healthier to eat. I believe they have no or little cholesterol.

I will download the recipe and would ask my wife to cook it. She is good in altering recipes. But, if I am to decide, I would rather not alter the recipe. The recipe is created by one of the best chefs; and, it must be good. And, I would request her to use the domestic seafood as they are still fresh and have great taste.

If you have not visited this great site yet: www.GreatAmericanSeafoodCookOff.com, I am encouraging you to do so; and, you will not regret it. Instead, you would learn new recipes created by great chefs. And, if you vote for your favorite recipe, you would get the chance to win a trip to New Orleans prize package.

Lunch and dinner with Mamang

Last Saturday, we treated Mamang for lunch and dinner. She is currently in the country for her six-month vacation. She's now on her third month; and, three more months, she would fly back to her new home in Sydney, Australia, where she lives with my sister, Cristina, and her family

For lunch, we ate at the Mann Hann in SM Megall. We ordered the following:

Chami

Fried Squid

Steamed Fish

Beef with brocolli

Fried Chicken

A typhoon has just passed

And, for dinner, at the Chicken Bacolod in Quezon City:

Chicken Inasal and Isol

Beef Sisig

Bangus (Milkfish) belly

Where is the Batchoy? We forgot to take its picture.

Ooopps! It was Mamang who footed for our lunch bill. Instead of treating her, she treated us. Thank you, Mamang.

Let's dine

Last night, my wife – Beng cooked a simple but healthy and delicious dinner for us. They were Camaron Rebosado and Brocolli in oyster sauce.

I am not dieting nor I watch what I eat – quality or quantity wise. I just control my rice intake from half to one cup only – half cup most of the time. Sometimes, I don’t eat rice anymore, especially if the viands are aplenty. Last night, however, I consumed about two cups.
