Koreans in the Philippines

I’ve been to Subic Bay Freeport Zone several times in the past months. I just noticed that there are now more Koreans all over the place. I also noticed that they have constructed a big community church inside the zone.

Also, I noticed that the zone's street signs have Korean translation.

In Metro Manila and in other areas, Koreans are also very visible – in malls, restaurants, bars, etc. I understand that most of them are here as tourists to study English. More Koreans or other foreigners, for that matter, in the country mean more income from tourism.

SBMA Flag Pole

SBMA Flag Pole

This is the SBMA flag pole located at Subic waterfront, which is just across the street from the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Administration Building, Subic, Philippines. The pole is 96 feet tall to symbolize the number of years of US military presence in the Philippines. Its base is 8 feet high to represent the 8,000 volunteers who reformed and rebuilt the former US naval base into SBMA.

The largest Filipino flag was unfurled here during the turn-over ceremony of the former US naval base to the Philippines on November 24, 1992.

Last August this year, typhoons "Chedeng" and "Dodong" hit Central Luzon, Philippines. Right after the typhoons, we went to Subic Bay Freeport Zone to spend a long weekend. We proceeded to the board walk / beach area for a stroll. However, we were surprised to see the unsightly and MESSY condition of the beach. Tons of garbage and debris were washed ashore at the height of the typhoons.

When we returned to Subic a week after, the beach had been cleaned up and was no longer MESSY.

This beach though is not suitable for swimming; and it is not allowed.

Flowers in Subic Bay

Aside from the Subic sceneries, I also took pictures of flowers. Subic is one of the Philippine's last forest. I'm glad that SBMA has maintained its verdancy. These flowers are just ordinary but they are beautiful nonetheless:

Subic Duty Free Shops Bargains

We went to Subic Bay Freeport Zone to spend the weekend. My sister in law and her daughter were with us and we joined them in their shop hopping - Value City, Royal Subic, Union Square, Freeport Duty Free Shop and 88 Mart. We had no plans of shopping except for some stuff to consume during our stay. However, we were tempted to buy some bargain stuff:
